Egypt Set to Get 46 Kamov Ka-52K Navalized Attack Helicopters from Russia for it's Mistral Helicopter Carrier

Ka-52Ks were designed for French-made Mistral helicopter carriers that were to join the Russian Navy last year, before France cancelled the deal over Ukraine. The warships are now being bought by Cairo. "In the outgoing year, new contracts were signed with Russian and foreign helicopter users," Russian Helicopters Director-General Alexander Mikheev said in a statement published in the corporate magazine.

He added that a major sale of Kamov naval helicopters were part of the deals that Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport had inked in 2015. The Ka-52K is a naval modification of the Kamov Ka-52 Alligator. It has reinforced landing gears intended for ship-borne attacks.

Russia and France officially terminated the 1.2 billion euro (some $1.28 billion at current exchange rates) contract on the delivery of the warships in August following French President Francois Hollande’s suspension of the supply late last year over the Ukrainian conflict. In October, Cairo and Paris signed a contract for Egypt's purchase of the warships originally built for Russia.

PAF To Get Extra Military Hardwares From USA

A recent post from defence.pk suggests that Pakistan will get some crucial military hardwares from various US sources. These includes:

I. 8 Block 52+ F-16 C Fighting Falcons fighter

Pakistani F-16 Block 52+ Fighting Falcons.

II. 3 Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate

Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate infographic.

III. Requested the sale of AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters to replace the AH-1F/S Cobras

A devastatingly handsome (and lethal) beast, AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters.
It is likely that Pakistan will exercise the option for the total 18 extra F-16s or buy more surplus ones from the US. Many would say this as the diplomacy of the COAS, but still there something to observe.  Pakistan those AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, because for both type of war scenario of Pakistan Army, in the east or north-west, they need these attack birds very urgently.

Recently Pakistan approaches firmly with Russian firms to acquire Mil Mi-35 HIND-E attack choppers in a countable number from Russia.

MBDA to Develop FASGW(H)/ANL: The Next Generation ANGLO-FRENCH Anti-Ship Missile

This new programme will lead to shared centres of excellence between both countries.

MBDA welcomes the signature of the Demonstration and Manufacture contract for the FASGW(H)/ANL (Future Anti Surface Guided Weapon (Heavy)/ Anti Navire Léger) missile on 26th March 2014. This jointly funded Anglo-French contract, valued at more than £500 million (€600 million) has been awarded to MBDA by the UK DE&S (Defence Equipment & Support) on behalf of the French and UK MODs and will be managed as part of MBDA’s Team Complex Weapons Portfolio. The work will complete the joint assessment and missile design work funded by the two nations in cooperation since 2009.

By working in concert and bringing together their respective strengths, Britain and France will not only achieve a more cost effective solution to their military needs, they will also help to strengthen MBDA’s position in confronting worldwide competition. Similarly this will also benefit the capability and export potential of those European helicopter platforms which will integrate the FASGW(H)/ANL system over the coming years.

Antoine Bouvier, CEO of MBDA said: “This programme initiates a new era of cooperation that will allow significant efficiencies on future programmes. Instead of combining their efforts programme by programme, as has been the case up to now, France and the UK will coordinate their development and acquisition approach to eliminate duplication in the missile sector. The benefits in terms of competitiveness and performance, which MBDA has already demonstrated with its principal cooperative programmes (Aster, Storm Shadow/SCALP, Meteor), will accrue in due course to more and more of our French and UK products. A decisive step has been made towards the reinforcement and sustainability of the missile industry sector in Europe. This development also ensures a long-term commitment to our armed forces customers with regard to their security of supply based on mutual access to sovereign technologies”.

FASGW(H)/ANL will equip the Royal Navy’s AW159 Lynx Wildcat helicopters and the French Navy’s maritime helicopters. Weighing around 100kg, this modern primarily anti-ship missile will destroy from safe stand-off ranges vessels ranging from FIAC (Fast Inshore Attack Craft), through medium sized FAC (Fast Attack Craft) up to large vessels such as Corvettes. This missile also has a surface attack capability against coastal and land targets.

This joint programme will deliver an enhanced capability to replace existing and legacy systems such as the UK-developed Sea Skua and the French-developed AS15TT anti-ship missiles. It also puts into practice the new cooperative principles agreed by France and the UK during the summit meetings held between the countries’ governments in November 2010, February 2012 and the Brize Norton summit on the 31st January 2014. These principles extend to the creation of Centres of Excellence common to the two countries. While optimising operational efficiency at the industrial level, this approach will also preserve the technology sovereignty of both countries.

Suitable for both blue water and cluttered littoral operations, FASGW(H)/ANL represents a major advance from a technological standpoint. This new system provides very precise effects against a wide range of threats, even in complex environments, thus satisfying a recognised and common future need. A high speed, two-way data-link communicates the images “seen” by the missile’s seeker to the operator, who, in addition to initiating an autonomous engagement, can alternatively remain in control of the missile throughout the full duration of its flight. This optional, man-in-the-loop, monitor-and-control facility, enables new capabilities such as: in-flight re-targeting; final aim point correction and refinement; or safe abort. Ultimately, the missile will be able to engage targets situated out of direct line of sight when the launch platform is able to benefit from third party target designation techniques, for example laser illumination.

Mysterious Chinese Helicopter Emerges on Internet

2013-09-03 — An interesting image has emerged from the prolific Chinese Internet. It depicts a mysterious helicopter being moved on a truck in China. Even if the aircraft is hidden below a protective covering, its shape can be guessed.

The chopper seems to have something in common with the U.S. UH-60 Black Hawk, hence it may be a Z-20, a Chinese model believed to be based on the S-70C, a medium transport/utility helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky already in service with the People’s Liberation Army.

However, there is another intriguing and (less likely) possibility: China has reverse-engineered the Stealth Black Hawk helicopter used by the Navy SEALs in the Osama Bin Laden raid.

Obviously this is a far fetched theory, since only a few chunks survived the crash landing at Abbottabad. Still, on Aug. 14, 2011, several media outlets all around the world, published the news that China was given access by Pakistani intelligence to the remains of the Stealth Black Hawk used during Operation Neptune’s Spear.

What if they copied the general design of the tail rotor and, just like this author did with Ugo Crisponi, designed a chopper whose shape is similar to the one of the U.S. black MH-X or the Israeli Stealth Yanshuf?

Z-9, Z-10 and Z-19 in China’s first helicopter aerobatics team

The “Thunder” aerobatics team, the first helicopter aerobatics team of the army aviation of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), made debut at the 2nd China (Tianjin) International Helicopter Exposition and staged excellent air shows on September 5, 2013.

“Founded on August 25, 2013, the “Thunder’ aerobatics team is equipped with Z-9, Z-10 and Z-19 helicopters, China’s most advanced independently-developed helicopters,” said Sun Delong, deputy director of the Army Aviation Department under the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA.

The “Thunder” aerobatics team is the PLA’s fourth aerobatics team following the “August 1″ aerobatics team, the “Sky Wing” aerobatics team and the “Red Falcon” aerobatics team of the PLA Air Force.

According to a briefing, all the members of the “Thunder” aerobatics team have flown over 2,000 hours and some of them took part in National Day parades and joint military exercises. Li Kuiyuan, leader of the “Thunder” aerobatics team, has a safe flight record of 7,000 hours, and he is also the first one in the country to turn armed helicopter somersaults.
